Eleanor Ann Thompson: God is my Light

 On February 19, 2021, we welcomed our third child into the world. 

 

Eleanor ("Ellie") Ann Thompson

7lbs 3oz

19.5 inches long

Born at 8:21 am

Eleanor means "God is my light," and her name could not be more perfect for the season we find ourselves in. Esther Diane also reminds us of God's light as her name means "star." We named her after a beautiful and brave queen and my beautiful and brave mother (Diane). Although the etymology of Streator John has nothing to do with light, we often call him our "beacon of joy... and destruction." He has a vibrant zeal for life and people and trying new things. 

Ann is the middle name of Ellie's paternal grandmother. "Grammy" is also a strong, beautiful and brave woman who loves Jesus fiercely and raised 18 children with love and compassion. She is full of grace and dignity and adds beauty to everything she touches.

Big Sister and Big Brother were so excited to welcome Ellie into our family. There have been some special, sweet moments in these early days. 


Our prayer for Ellie is that God's light would shine in and through her. There were many times in the latter days of 2020 that I would find myself overwhelmed by the world but putting a hand on my belly and reassuring my soul: God is my Light. 

"The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living the land of deep darkness a light has dawned." - Isaiah 9:2

Jesus Christ is our shining Light. He has pierced the darkness of our sin, brokenness and rebellion with the cleansing power of His marvelous light. There is no other way out of the inner darkness every human heart experiences. We pray that Ellie would come to know The Famous One, Jesus, the lover of her soul. We pray that He would be made glorious in her life and testimony. 

And so, sweet Ellie, we pray over you the blessing for our children:

May you know the love of Jesus and experience His peace

May you know the grace of God and accept His forgiveness

May the Lord give you courage and a heart that is strong

May the Lord bless you and keep you and shine His Light in and through you

  When I tried Whole30 several years ago, I was on the hunt for a good, clean burger recipe. After piecing together several variations, I came up with this! Parker was immediately hooked and I have been making it ever since. When we are not gluten or dairy conscious, we dress them up as described below. Husband Goals

My husband's birthday is this month, and I've been thinking about how much I appreciate all that he does. Today marks the 7th day in a row that he has been gone 12-14 hours a day. This is the life of a medical resident. He is a lover of God, amazing husband, incredible father, faithful friend, and highly skilled physician completing his residency in pediatrics. . . and he seems to make it all look easy. Let me tell you something. It's not. I can feel him fighting against the burden of his job. Of course, pediatrics is a rewarding field, but it comes with much heartache: notifying the parents of a pre-term baby that their child is not going to make it, helping parents cope with a new and challenging diagnosis, showing grace and tact with parents or patients who ignore your advice and slander you to your face. I can feel him fighting against the drag of society to disconnect, self-indulge, and shirk the responsibility of family life. I feel him fighting for our marriage...

Thompson Tacos: for Breakfast and Dinner!

Thompsons love tacos. They love little tacos and big tacos. They love tacos at a restaurant and tacos at home. They love tacos for breakfast and tacos for dinner. If your kids love this book, you catch my drift.  We eat tacos for dinner about once a week. They are quick, easy, and delicious. But did you know they can be even easier? I prep these tacos (technically burritos since they are wrapped up in tortillas) often because they always come in handy!  I also LOVE making "breakfast burritos." I am someone who cannot skip breakfast and I definitely need to have protein. However, it is hard to prep a breakfast burrito masterpiece in the morning with 3 hungry kiddos underfoot.  Solution: mass prep and freeze. You can eat these right away OR store them in the freezer.
